TOP 10 BOOKS FOR BIRTH TO 3!
Engaging children in books can be difficult! These are my top 10 series to engage reluctant readers.
01
Sandra Boynton
She has fantastic books that incorporate learning body parts, imitating gestures, animal sounds and repetitive text. Some of my favorites are:
Moo, Baa, La La La
Hey Wake Up!
The Barnyard Dance
Horns to Toes and in Between
Blue Hat, Green Hat
02
Usborne Slide & See Series
This series has proven time and time again to engage readers including my own son! It was his first interest in books. There are not words so I love to target environmental and play sounds throughout the book. The cause and effect on each page helps grab the child's attention. I pair words with the movement so it lends itself for lots of repetition!
In this series:
Baby's Very First Slide & See Farm
Baby's Very First Slide & See Zoo
Baby's Very First Slide & See Nighttime
Baby's Very First Slide & See Christmas
Baby's Very First Slide & See Under the Sea
Baby's Very First Slide & See Animals
Baby's Very First Slide & See Dinosaurs
03
Usborne Reusable Sticker Books
I love the Slide and See for early readers who are just learning to attend to books. This series I prefer for kiddos who are a little older but just don't want to sit still! On each page the child puts a reusable sticker on the animals. The repetitive text is fantastic for language development!
In this series is:
All Better
Kisses, Cuddles and Goodnight
Time to Brush
Little Bear Needs Glasses
It's Christmastime
04
Never Touch A Spider (& Series)
I LOVE the textures in these books. Even if your child won't listen to all the text, you can describe the pictures and how the different textures feel!
In this series:
Never Touch a Spider
Never Touch a Dinosaur
Never Touch a Porcupine
Never Touch a Shark
05
Tiger Tales "My First Touch and Feel Sound Book"
These books combine textures and sounds, which the kids love! It also adds in the cause/effect by learning to push the button! The children can learn about the animals, trucks, etc. on each page!
In this series:
Noisy Baby Animals
Noisy Animals
Noisy Trucks
Noisy Farm
Noisy First Words
06
Usborne "Don't Tickle" Series
If you're an Usborne addict like me, I love this series. It is similar to Tiger Tales but the buttons are easier to push, less text per page and has a fun song at the end! Each page is repetitive with the same lines. I'll be honest this series is a little expensive but the books are super cute.
In this series:
Don't Tickle the Lion
Don't Tickle the Bear
Don't Tickle the Dinosaur
Don't Tickle the Hippo
Don't Tickle the Tiger
07
Babies Love Series
These books are small and durable! They have thick pages which would be difficult to rip. And I've had a book ripper! Each page has a flap to find the hidden item and simple vocabulary for babies to learn!
In this Series:
Animals
Things that Go
First Words
Colors & Numbers
*They also have Holiday themes!
08
Karen Katz Lift the Flap Series
One of my favorites in the series is "Where is Baby's Puppy?" Baby is looking for her puppy and on her adventure she finds other animals. It's so fun to say "is that baby's puppy? NO!" The kids love the flaps and repetitive text.
In this Series:
Where is Baby's Puppy?
Where is Baby's Belly Button?
Toes, Ears and Nose
Holiday options as well!
09
Hello Genius Series
This series promotes early learning skills, following directions and behavior!
In this Series:
Little Tiger Picks Up
Little Lion Shares
Little Elephant Listens
Little Monkey Calms Down
10
Eric Carle "From Head to Toe"
The actions in this book help with the gross motor that little ones need as well as targeting
imitation of movements and sounds! I pair it with animal cards for extra movement!
